HGA Grow outreach to Hlabeni
The HGA Grow plot at Centocow continues to be productive thanks to the sterling work of the students involved. Ncebakaziyakhe Kefile from King Hintsa TVET College in Mthatha is our fourth student to be involved and has been quick to add value to the team. We continue to trial different crops and have been pleased to see how well green peppers have done this season. Thembeka and Ncebakaziyakhe have taken the initiative to sell our produce door-todoor which has contributed significantly towards the sustainability of our project budget.
A significant amount of time has been spent offering assistance to the farmers up the road at Hlabeni. Stapylton-Smith Farming CC kindly donated irrigation parts in order to get their system up and running again which has already had a noticeable impact in the amount of cultivation taking place at the site. In response to a finding from our recent survey in the area, HGA has also carried out soil sampling for analysis so that we can offer informed guidance as to how their soil can be improved.
